Wedding Belles: Getting stuck into the planning process

It’s September, which means one thing – 9 months to go til the big day! Yikes – that seems to have gone pretty quickly. Ever since we’ve got under the ‘one year to go’ mark, we’ve started ramping up on all of the fun wedding plannings, so I thought I’d give you all a bit of an update.

Venue

We’ve been back to see our venue and fell even more in love with it second time around. One tip I will give anyone else planning a wedding – if your venue has a any social media accounts, be sure to follow them. We’ve loved seeing all of the wedding pictures from our venue over the summer – it’s lovely to see how other people style the venue (and pinch some ideas), and how the gardens and lighting look at the same time of year that we’ll be getting married. I’m now even more excited for our wedding next summer.

Wedding dress dilemmas

When I first got engaged, choosing a dress was quite a scary prospect for me – I’ve modelled wedding dresses for a friend’s mum’s wedding dress shop before and was worried it might mean I wouldn’t have that felling when I find ‘the one’. In fact, I have now had that moment (pretty much)… twice! I first found a really relaxed style, ‘off the rack’ dress that I loved so much I decided to just buy it – oops! Then two weeks later, with a little hesitation in my mind about the first dress, found another dress that I liked even more. Having spoken to a few friends, this seems to be something that happens to quite a few people (who knew!), so while I don’t feel quite so bad, I now have that difficult decision to make – which dress do I choose?! I’ll keep you updated with what I decide! In the meantime, I won’t show you the dresses, but here are a few of the styles I’ve been obsessing over:

Photographer

Choosing a photographer was a big deal to both me and Lee – we really wanted somebody who would capture the style and relaxed atmosphere of our big day perfectly, without feeling staged or too ‘stiff’. After months of searching through online portfolios and speaking with various photographers, we finally decided on Kerry Bartlett – a documentary style photographer whose photos we first looked at before we were even engaged, and that we just kept going back to look at. Her style of photography is beautiful and exactly what we want for our photos – you can check them out here. I’m super excited and can’t wait to see how the photos turn out.

Decorations and venue styling

Now this is the bit that really excites me! I’ve been avidly ‘Pinning’ all things wedding-decor related since we got engaged back in August last year, but until recently it’s felt a bit too soon to make any definite decisions over anything wedding-decor related. It made sense for us to have our venue sorted, and even our colour scheme and photographer set in place before making any rash purchases or decisions about the venue – after all, all of those things can have a big impact on what visual elements will/won’t work.

So now that we have our photographer booked, and our colour and style themes are set, we’ve been able to start planning all of the decor that we want our venue to be filled with. Think candles galore, lots of pastel florals and pretty calligraphy prints.

Are any of you planning a wedding? I’d love to have a read of any wedding blog posts, so please do share them in the comments below.

I’m going to try and keep up with regular updates now up until the wedding – so stay tuned for more of this sort of post. Hope you’re all having a great week!
