The fact that this blog post started off life as a ‘4 months to go wedding update’ and has ended up a ‘2 months to go’ is pretty symbolic of how the past few months have gone. I know I say this a lot, but never have I meant it more than now; time needs to slow the hell down.
While part of me is so excited to have our big day and start married life, I’m also feeling incredibly overwhelmed by the amount of things needing to be done over the next couple of months. The big stuff is all done, but there’s now all the little bits and bobs that need to be sorted and planned out, so I’ve been getting my inner Monica out to play.
Anyways, I thought it was about time I did a little update on how things are going, and provide a little insight into the wedding planning process – albeit two months later than planned. So here goes
Decorating the venue
It’s so easy to be overambitious when it comes to wedding decor. Pinterest is amazing for giving you ideas, but there are also so many ideas that narrowing it down can be tricky. This is one thing I’ve really struggled with recently – trying to plan out which of the (very many) amazing ideas I’ve screenshot and Pinned over the past 2 years we want to include. I am pretty lucky that I enjoy crafts and DIY, and we also have some talented family members who we’ve enlisted to help sort out a few great DIY projects. We’ve tried to pick DIYs carefully and choose projects that are achievable for us – while we would love to go crazy with Pinterest ideas, our venue isn’t massive and we don’t want to sign up to more DIY ideas than is feasible within the next 2 months.
Our wedding photography package includes a complimentary pre-wedding photoshoot. Whilst this is definitely not something either of us would ever have really picked to do ourselves, we’re both kind of looking forward to having some professional photos done and getting to work with our photographer before the big day. In the almost-10-years we’ve been together, we’ve not ever had any professional pictures taken, so as much as it will be odd, it’ll also be nice to have some done before the big day – although, I won’t lie, picking an outfit has been causing lots of unnecessary stress! I’ll be sure to show you some of these when we get them.
Itinerary and obsessive organising
When I found myself getting super stressed out with wedding plans a few weeks ago, I resorted to getting my wedding planner spreadsheet out and creating a mammoth, thorough itinerary and to do list, which made me immediately feel more in control. I’m now trying to spend a bit of time every day checking through our lists, chasing RSVPs and suppliers, and adding notes and reminders to my calendar for every important check point. It might seem a lot, but when you get easily stressed like I do, feeling in control helps massively. I’m thinking of doing a post on my top organisation tips, so stay tuned!
I finally have my dream dress. It only took a year of stressing, one first-buy dress I’m now selling, and about 5,476,293 hours spent scouring wedding dress shops and a few tears. For anyone who’s after some advice when it comes to looking for your wedding dress, I’ve put up a post all about my experience and a few of my tips when it comes to wedding dress shopping.
Hen Do excitement!
As the wedding gets closer, my Hen weekend gets even closer! My bridesmaids have been busy planning and I still have zero idea where we are going, which, while super frustrating for a control freak like me, is also really exciting! I can’t wait to see what’s been planned and spend some time with all my favourite girls.
Our honeymoon is something that we’ve thought about for such a long time, but it’s finally sorted and booked – yippee! We spent such a long time going through various ideas – there are so many options, it felt impossible to choose where to go, and what sort of trip we wanted. So, after much deliberation, we’ve booked a three week trip, taking in Orlando, Miami and the Bahamas. Having never been to Orlando, this was something we’ve planned on doing together for years and a trip I’m incredibly excited about! We were both also obsessed with the programme Dexter and it’s made us both desperate to visit Miami, so as we were in Florida, it seemed a perfect second stop. Finally, we’ll be taking in some beach time and relaxing at the Sandals Royal Bahamian. I. can’t. flipping. wait.
It’s finally starting to feel real!
Having started the planning process almost two years ago, for a long time, it just didn’t feel real – everything seemed too far away to get too excited about it, but now with two months to go, it’s started to feel very real and that’s really exciting (and scary!). While there’s lots of little things to do at the moment, we’ve got all the big stuff done, and that’s quite a relief. We’re both now just looking forwards to the big day – and, more importantly, being married!
Here’s hoping the next two months go a little slower, and everything goes according to plan – although, even if it doesn’t, I think I’ll be quite content with being married, and having a dance or 2 with all of my loved ones come the big day.
And I promise I’ll try to make sure the next update is less delayed!
