Okay, so the weather out there at the moment is pretty grim, I’ll give you that. Drizzly rain, dark nights and extortionate heating bills can all leave us feeling pretty rotten at this time of year, but it’s not all bad! As a firm believer in positivity (yes, I am one of those annoying people!), the onset of winter makes me think about all of the wonderful things that this season brings with it.
So, if you’re feeling pretty glum about winter, then read on and I can guarantee that by the end of this article, you too will love winter. Or if you’re already a winter fan like me, then please do feel free to read this and get as excited about winter as I did when writing this!
Okay so winter equals cold weather, but what does cold weather equal? Getting cosy. Who on earth doesn’t love the feeling that comes when you’re snuggled up with your favourite blanket, TV remote in one hand and a hot choccie in the other? Wintry weather means it is okay to stay in on a saturday night with your PJs on and a good film (or X Factor – I love X Factor), because, let’s be fair, who even wants to leave the house when it is blowing a freezing cold gale outside?
I always get ridiculously excited come winter because I can finally swap out my summer clothes for all of my cosiest, snuggliest clothes – think huge jumpers, winter coats and knitted tights. I love layered up wintry outfits, complete with hat, scarf and gloves, plus two pair of socks just in case your feet get cold. Summer dressing just doesn’t compare in the cosy department.
Okay, so anybody who says they don’t like Christmas should just go. WITHOUT DOUBT my favourite time of the year, to me, Christmas = winter, and winter = Christmas. As soon as the weather begins to take a turn to the cold side, I think of Christmas and everything it brings with it – the lights, the atmosphere, the festivities, the food! There is so much that I love about Christmas, I could go on all day, but I’ll save that for another post!
Dark nights, bright lights
Now, I will admit, I am not a fan of leaving home before light, and then getting home in the dark. However, one silver lining of the days getting darker is the look of everything when the dark is lit up by tons of amazing Christmassy lights at this time of year. The whole world gets transformed and every since I was a little girl, I’ve found it mesmerizing.
Warming winter food
As a bit of a foodie, one thing that I really adore about winter is filling up on warm , cosy comfort foods – soups. stews, roasts, and all kinds of amazing hot desserts. Winter foods always remind me of my great nan – she was an amazing cook and taught me and my sister so many recipes – her casserole was like nothing I’ve ever tasted before, and every winter I try to recreate her recipe. There is literally nothing I love more than warming your bones after a long day, with a hot bowl of stew or casserole.
